The conductor Peter Forcher
Peter Johannes Forcher, born 1959 in Lienz (East Tyrol), studied at the Landeskonservatorium in Innsbruck and at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst Graz, Expositur Oberschützen with Prof. Walter Kefer and o.HProf. Gerhard Schönfeldinger. In 1987 he passed the diploma examination on the clarinet with unanimous distinction.
From 1982 to 2007 Peter Forcher was a teacher at the Music School Birkfeld and 2008-2022 he taught at the Music School Weiz. In October 2005 he was appointed bandmaster of the ELIN Stadtkapelle Weiz. Furthermore, he was a lecturer for ensemble conducting and artistic assistance for clarinet at the Institute Oberschützen of the University of Arts Graz from 1989-2007 and lecturer for chamber music and orchestral studies for woodwinds at the University of Arts Graz from 2007-2022. In 2022 he took up a well-deserved retirement.
Peter Forcher is musically indispensable in several ensembles and musical formations. He was a member of the "Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester" under Claudio Abbado and participated in several ensembles, such as the "Klangforum Wien", "Ensemble des 20. Jahrhunderts", "Wiener Bläsersextett", the "Österreichische Bläserharmonie", the "Trio-Clarin" and the "vienna clarinet connection". He substituted with the RSO Vienna and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
As a clarinettist and conductor he participated in numerous CD recordings in the field of wind chamber music and harmony music and performed at festivals such as the Mozartwoche Salzburg, Salzburger Festspiele, Carinthischer Sommer, Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Festival St. Gallen, Rheingau Festival, Mahler Festival and others.
In 1990 Peter Forcher founded the Pannonian Wind Orchestra with Bernhard Habla, of which he is still the artistic director.
